EDI Information

RI will follow the Claims Release 3 IAIABC standard.  Submission will be on a VOLUNTARY basis.  There are currently no plans to mandate electronic claims reporting.

We are currently implementing a new workers' compensation information system to include claims and EDI. We are tentatively scheduled to start trading partner testing for FROI in January, 2012 and for SROI in April, 2012.

We will concentrate on accepting FROI maintenance type codes 00 and CO, then 01, AU, and UR. Accepting 02 will depend on test results.

We have no plans to accept FROI 04 Denials.  In Rhode Island, a first report is required when an injury that required medical treatment or caused more than 3 days lost time is reported.  The first report does not constitute a claim for benefits.  Because the first report is not a claim for benefits, it is inappropriate to deny a first report.

We will concentrate on accepting SROI maintenance type codes IP, PY, RB, Sx, and FN.   Accepting any maintenance type codes will depend on test results.

For more information please contact Laura Evans, (401) 462-8023 or LEvans@dlt.ri.gov.
