Professional Regulation oversees the licensure, testing, registration, and discipline of more than 30,000 individuals in 67 trade occupations, as well as oversees the administrative and regulatory functions of seven licensing Boards whose 56 members represent the various professions.

Our purpose is to examine and license all applicants for licenses with the Board of Examiners of Electricians, Board of Hoisting Engineers, Mechanical Board, Board of Examiners of Plumbers, and Board of Examination and Licensing of Telecommunication System Contractors and Technicians and Burgular Alarm Business and Agents.

The unit administers examinations to electricians, hoisting engineers, pipefitters, refrigeration technicians, fire protection sprinkler fitters, sheet metal workers, plumbers and telecommunication system contractors and installers.

Examinations are administered monthly at the Department of Labor and Training Building #73.

Burglar Alarms

Alarm agents install, repair, move, sell and maintain alarm systems, usually for an alarm business for residential and non residential customers.

Electricians install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes.

Hoisting Engineers

Hoisting Engineers operate power construction equipment that uses steam, internal combustion engines, electric or compressed air of 5 horsepower or more and/or lift more than 500 pounds.

Occupations under the Mechanicals group include Pipefitters, Welders, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics, Fire Protection and Sprinkler Installers.

Plumbers and Irrigators

Plumbers install clay, concrete, plastic or cast-iron pipe for drains, sewers and water mains.

Irrigators prepare and install piping for lawn sprinklers and the irrigations of golf courses and farms.
