Certifying for Weekly Payments using
the Internet or Teleserve

You must use Teleserve to create a confidential Personal Identification Number (PIN), listen to or read the Unemployment Insurance Benefit Rights, establish a Waiting Period Credit, and certify for Payments each week you are requesting benefits.

You may complete all three steps of Teleserve requirements online or by phone.

  1. Establish your confidential four digit Personal Identification
    N
    umber (PIN). To select your PIN you will need the following:
    • Social Security Number
    • Two-digit Benefit Year Ending (BYE) code indicated at the top right of your Teleserve brochure
  1. Listen to or read the Unemployment Insurance Benefit Rights.

  2. Before you can certify for weekly benefit payments on a new claim, you must first serve a seven-day waiting period. Once you establish a waiting period credit, you may begin certifying for weekly payments.  
    • You must continue to certify for payments each week you are requesting benefits. Failure to certify each week may result in a denial of benefits.

You must follow the instructions above even if your claim is in pending status or if you are denied benefits and are appealing your decision. Your weekly certifications will be held in pending status until a determination on your claim has been made. Failure to establish a waiting period credit or certify for payments each week that your claim is pending may result in a denial of benefits. 

Please note you cannot use the automated Teleserve system to file a claim for benefits or to reopen an existing claim.

Teleserve or Online Certification Question Guide

Please be ready to answer the following questions:
Are you claiming benefits for the week ending _________? (Prior week will be cited.)
Were you able and available for full time work last week?
Did you look for full time work last week?
Did you return to full time work last week?
Did you refuse any work offered to you last week?

Did you work part-time, earn or receive any vacation pay, bonus pay, or wages for last week?

If yes, did you work less than full time?

If yes, please enter your total gross earnings before tax deductions for the prior week, including overtime, bonus, tips and commissions. Enter the dollar and cents amount followed by the pound sign (#). If you received an even dollar amount, use zeroes for the cents followed by the pound sign (#).  You do not have to have your paystub to call for payment.  You can calculate your gross earnings by multiplying your hourly rate by the number of hours you worked for that calendar week.  For unemployment purposes, a calendar week is Sunday through Saturday.
