When an individual applies for unemployment, the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division sends a Notice of Claim Filed form to the recent employers. Employers are required to return this form within 10 business days in order to have standing to contest any determination with respect to the individual’s claim. Employers can respond in two different ways.

UI SIDES and SIDES E-Response: Separation and Information Data Exchange System

The free State Information Data Exchange system (SIDES and SIDES E-Response) can reduce paperwork, eliminate postage costs, minimize unnecessary appeals, ensure accurate UI tax assessments and deter improper UI payments.

Let us show you how:

UI SIDES and SIDES E-Response are two computer-based options developed through a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor and state UI agencies to simplify and streamline responses to UI information requests. Both SIDES and SIDES E-Response use nationally standardized, electronic formats to process UI information exchanges.

Why use SIDES and Sides E-Response? There are many benefits:

SIDES is best suited for employers and third party administrators (TPAs) that typically handle a large volume of UI information requests.

SIDES E-Response is ideal for employers and TPAs with a limited number of annual UI requests.

Sign up for SIDES:

UI SIDES is ideal for employers and Third Party Administrators (TPAs) that handle a large volume of Unemployment Insurance information requests.

How does it work?

SIDES is an automated computer-to-computer interface for employers and TPAs to receive and respond electronically to UI information requests.

UI information requests from participating states are in the same standard format; responses are also in a standard format. SIDES produces performance metrics and provides audit controls.

What does it require?

It requires employers and TPAs to integrate SIDES with their internal IT system themselves, but technical support is available; there is no charge for its use.

How do I begin?
You will need your Employer ID and FEIN to log in.

Sign up for SIDES E-Response:

SIDES E-Response is best suited for employers and Third Party Administrators (TPAs) with a limited number of annual Unemployment Insurance requests.

How does it work?

Employers and TPAs participating in SIDES E-Response will receive a request for UI information from the Department of Labor and Training by email.

The request will instruct them the employer to logon securely using a unique PIN to SIDES E-Response and enter the requested information in a standard format.

What does it require?

Sides e-Response requires a working internet connection and an employee to enter; there is no programming required for implementation and no charge for its use.

How do I begin?
You will need your Employer ID and FEIN to log in.
