Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training Unemployment Insurance

Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation and State Extended Benefits

When customers exhaust their regular unemployment insurance benefits, they may be eligible for additional benefits through the Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program. Until recently, the maximum number of weeks a customer could receive EUC benefits was 13 weeks. However, President Bush recently approved longer EUC benefits for eligible job seekers. Customers who may be eligible for additional weeks of unemployment insurance will be contacted by written notification prior to December 6, 2008. Watch our web site for more information as it becomes available.

Frequently Asked Questions about EUC

Some customers who exhaust Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation may be eligible for State Extended Benefits. The maximum number of weeks an eligible jobseeker may collect State Extended Benefits is dependent on the Rhode Island unemployment rate’s three-month average. Twenty weeks is the current maximum.
