LIGHTNING
PROTECTION LICENSE
On July 3, 2006 06-H 7924 Sub B As Amended became effective without the Governor's signature. This law provides guidelines for the regulation and licensing of lightning protection apprentices, journeypersons and contractors. The creation of licensing of this trade will authorize the state of Rhode Island to regulate the qualifications of individuals who are performing lightning protection work, as well as provide for public safety and protection of property by permitting lightning protection contractors to apply for permits from local cities, towns and the state of Rhode Island. This insures that all lightning protection work is inspected, and code violations corrected prior to the completion of work. This license requirement will become effective on January 1, 2007. Applications for the lightning protection examinations can be obtained online at the DLT's website, www.dlt.state.ri.us under Professional Regulations/trade licensing, electrician's license applications, or can be picked up in person at DLT's trade licensing office, 1511 Pontiac Avenue, Bldg. 70, second floor, Cranston, RI.
Please
note: all individuals applying for this license are subject to examination.
