The Greater
Rhode Island Workforce Investment Area (WIA) encompasses all
cities and towns in Rhode Island with
the exception of Providence and Cranston. The Greater Rhode
Island WIA had a combined estimated population
of 794,138 in 2010. This represented a 0.2 percent (-1,294)
decrease in estimated total population between
Census 2000 and Census 2010. In comparison, the state’s
population as a whole increased by 4,248 residents
(+0.4%) during this period. Approximately 75.4 percent of all
Rhode Islanders lived in the Greater Rhode
Island WIA in April 2010.
