Mass Layoff Statistics - Survey Questions
In Rhode Island, whenever 35 or more initial claims are
filed against a single establishment within a five-week period, a Research
Analyst from the Labor Market Information unit will contact the employer
to obtain the following information:

Is the layoff permanent or temporary?

What is the reason for the layoff?

Is a recall expected, and if so, what is the expected
recall date?

Will the recall be total or partial?
-
What was the number of employees before the layoff?
-
How many people did the company layoff?
The data provided by employers are used by the U.S. Bureau
of Labor Statistics to identify potential major layoffs and plant
closings. This information is used as a tool in determining current
economic conditions. |

Labor & Training and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for
