This sector includes establishments that extract naturally occurring minerals such as coal, ores, crude petroleum, and natural gas. The term mining includes quarrying, well operations, and beneficiating, or other preparation customarily performed at the mine site or as part of the mining activity. The sector distinguishes two basic activities: mine operation and mining support activities. All Rhode Island employment previously classified in the SIC Mining division is now classified in the NAICS Mining sector. |
