CAREER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

A Short-term Vocational Program
that includes a quick conprehensive approach to prepare injured workers to indepedently identify and obtain the appropriate employment opportunities

THE PROGRAM WILL INCLUDE:

Orientation to Vocational Services - MONDAYS 2:00 PM

Resume Development - THURSDAYS 9-11 AM

Careerscope Vocational Testing - FRIDAYS 9-11 AM

Job-Seeking Skills Workshop – 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS: MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY

Offered Twice a Month, 9 AM – 12 NOON

DAY 1- WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?

  • How to conduct a job search
  • Orientation to internet job search sites
  • Introduction to netWORKri
  • State Jobs and More
  • SPEAKER: from the State Department of Administration

DAY 2- YES, YOU CAN!

  • Review of Resume types and cover letters
  • How to make the contact to a potential employer
  • How to complete applications
  • SPEAKER: Department of Labor and Training Education Unit - Addressing concerns about Wages and Benefits

DAY 3- DRESS FOR SUCCESS

  • Interviewing Skills
  • Personal Presentation
  • Video and discussion on Interviewing Etiquette
  • How to think and speak positively about skills and abilities
  • The HOW-TO’S of answering the tough questions on
    • Gaps in work history
    • Interview Follow-Up Etiquette
    • How to keep job search records

Participants will be encouraged to continue to meet with other job seekers in our Monday Job Club Group meetings at 11:00 or 1:00 that are held in the Employment Resource Center here at the Donley Center.

INJURED WORKERS ARE WELCOME TO TAKE ANY OR ALL UNITS.

When all units are accomplished, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion

Participants will not be admitted to the Donley Center but are welcome to request further individual consultation with a vocational counselor
