Rhode Island-Based Jobs Down 900 from August; September Unemployment Rate Remains at 5.6 Percent - DLT announced today that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September 2016 was 5.6 percent, unchanged from the August rate. Over the year, the unemployment rate is unchanged from the September 2015 rate of 5.6 percent. Read more

Statement Concerning Arraignment of Ex-DLT Employee Accused of Theft of Unemployment Insurance Funds - DLT Director Scott Jensen released the following statement today concerning the Federal Court arraignment of Ambulai Sheku, 37, of Providence. A DLT employee who worked in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Call Center from 2009 until 2015, Sheku is accused of multiple counts of fraudulently obtaining UI benefits. Read more

DLT, Attorney General’s Office Warn of Inaccurate Information on Look-Alike Workers’ Comp Website Although it looks official, “rhodeislandoworkerscompensation.org” is actually just advertising a for-profit legal referral business - DLT and Office of the Attorney General are advising employers and workers to avoid a look-alike website offering information about workers’ compensation coverage because it’s often inaccurate, and if mistakenly relied upon as authoritative, could have negative consequences.
