64 Training Programs added under Federal Free Tuition Program

Since July 1st, 64 short-term training programs have been added to the list of training programs for which eligible Rhode Island job seekers may receive free or partially-subsidized tuition under the federal Workforce Investment Act, according to the RI Department of Labor and Training and the Governor’s Workforce Board Rhode Island.

These new additions make more than 240 WIA-approved training programs available to eligible Rhode Islanders. Programs that receive approval must demonstrate short-term or long-term business demand for workers trained through the programs’ curricula. Eligible unemployed and underemployed workers may be eligible for up to $5,500 in free short-term training if they meet the federal criteria for eligibility and suitability. Those interested in pursuing training opportunities must first attend a WIA training orientation at one of four netWORKri one-stop career centers, then meet with a netWORKri career counselor to formulate a training plan. WIA training orientations have limited enrollment and require pre-registration. To register for an orientation, contact the netWORKri office nearest you (see below):

The netWORKri One-Stop Career Centers, located throughout Rhode Island, offer employment services to both job seekers and area employers. The centers are managed and operated by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, a netWORKri partner.
