Department of Labor and Training to Host Additional
Jobs Now Rhode Island Info Sessions for Employers

June 3, 2010

The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training will host additional employer information sessions for Jobs Now Rhode Island, a federally funded, subsidized employment program, on the following days:

      • Tuesday, June 8, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
      • Friday, June 11, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
      • Monday, June 14, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Held at the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, 1511 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, the free information sessions are for employers interested in either the statewide Jobs Now Rhode Island or its subsidiary, the city-wide Jobs Now Providence program. Seating is limited, and registration is required at 1-888-616-JOBS.

Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Jobs Now Rhode Island is a job creation program that will reimburse eligible businesses 100 percent of wages for qualifying hires through September 30, 2010. The program is jointly administered by the Rhode Island Departments of Human Services, Labor and Training, and Revenue, in conjunction with Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston and the Workforce Partnership of Greater Rhode Island.

Jobs Now Rhode Island is ideal for businesses preparing to expand their workforce because it gives employers the opportunity to evaluate and train workers before committing to long-term hires. Companies that retain the Jobs Now workers beyond the duration of the program may qualify for additional tax credits. Jobs Now Rhode Island is also well suited for businesses desiring temporary and/or seasonal help. Jobs Now hiring cannot be used to reinstate or replace recently laid-off workers.

More information on employer and job seeker eligibility can be found by clicking the Jobs Now Rhode Island link of the department’s web site, www.dlt.ri.gov. Employers do NOT need to attend an information session in order to benefit from the Jobs Now Rhode Island program; they may apply online any time at www.jobsnowri.com.
