Technical Problem with the UI and TDI Phone System

December 24, 2012

On Monday, December 24, 2012, the telephone system for Unemployment Insurance and Temporary Disability Insurance programs at the RI Department of Labor and Training experienced a technical problem with its telephone system that may have allowed the unauthorized sharing of some customers’ personal information, including Social Security numbers. A departmental review shows the potential pool of impacted customers to number no more than 700; the actual number of impacted customers may be significantly smaller. Out of an abundance of caution, the department is in the process of notifying all customers who may have been impacted, and is providing them with free credit monitoring services for a three-month period. The department is also working closely with the telephone system vendor to ensure that no technical problems of a similar nature can occur in the future.
