Systems Upgrade to Affect DLT Services This Weekend

October 27, 2017

CRANSTON, RI — The Department of Labor and Training (DLT) will undergo an essential IT system upgrade this Saturday, Oct. 28, that will affect customer accessibility to most agency services from 8 AM to 3 PM. We apologize for the inconvenience.

During this time, Unemployment Insurance claimants will not be able to use the automated Teleserve system to certify for weekly payments via the internet or telephone nor will Temporary Disability/Caregiver Insurance customers be able to file claims. DLT’s websites and telephones also will be off-line while the IT work is done. Because it is not housed at DLT, EmployRI.org, an online career center, will be accessible to both job seekers and employers.

The state Division of Information Technology is installing a new core switch at DLT. Sometimes called a “backbone switch,” this high-capacity switch centralizes communications among multiple connected devices in one local area network, inspecting incoming messages as they are received and directing them to their specific intended destinations. A public agency’s reliance on the secure transfer of data being shared by a high number of users makes a core switch critical to both system performance and integrity.
